Suspect faces mischief, firearm charges in Petrolia thefts

A Petrolia man has been arrested in connection with thefts from two coin machines in the town in July.

Lambton OPP said the incidents happened July 17 at a business on King Street and on July 24, at a business on Robert Street.

The accused was arrested August 28 after a search warrant was executed at a home on Derby Street in Petrolia.

It was undertaken by Lambton OPP's Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Elgin-Middlesex CSCU, West Region OPP Canine Unit, the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Lambton OPP uniform members.

The 48-year-old is charged with the following:

- Mischief over $5,000 (two counts)

- Theft under $5,000 (two counts)

- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order

- Possession of Break In Instruments

- Failure to Comply with a Probation Order (two counts)

During the search, police said they located items used during the commission of the offences as well as other offence-related items.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on October 28.
