Permits for new homes boost September building stats

A spike in permits issued for new home construction in Sarnia is boosting September's building stats.

Last month, the city issued seven permits for single family dwellings, totaling $2,950,000.

That brings the year to date total to 18, down two from this time last year.

There were a total of 46 building permits issued in September, worth a total of $7,842,219.

The largest one was for $1.2 million for the installation of a sanitary lift station at Imperial Oil at 602 Christina Street South.

A $600,000 permit was issued to Terrace Manor Limited for "Interior alterations for new restaurant" at 1355 London Road, Unit 3.

Year-over-year construction activity in Sarnia is trailing last year's pace with a total of 321 permits issued so far in 2025, compared to 343 during the first nine months of 2024.
