Local youth goalie program gets funding boost

The Sarnia Jr. Lady Sting will be able to grow its Goalie Development Program thanks to a $8,000 donation from the Cousi Hockey Development Fund.

Members of the group, along with the Sarnia Community Foundation (SCF), recently presented a cheque to the organization as part of its spirit day.

The Goalie Development Program encourages new players to try the position and make girls' hockey more accessible for underserved families.

The Cousi Hockey Development Fund has been holding an annual golf tournament, locally, to raise funds for youth since 2017.

The next one will take place in September 2026.

The Cousi Hockey Development Fund was established in 2024 with the SCF to help youth in sport.

With the rise is in everyday costs for families, the SCF said this had an impact on youth participation in sports.

Those wishing to donate to the Cousi Hockey Development Fund or would like more information about the SCF can visit them online.

Established in 1983, the Sarnia Community Foundation has given back over $13 million to community organizations and projects in Sarnia-Lambton.
