Mississauga man charged after drugs, gun found at London Line property

Sarnia police seized drugs and a handgun in a search warrant on London Line.

Officers with the Drug Unit, Intelligence Unit and Emergency Response Team conducted the raid on Tuesday, October 6.

As a result of the investigation, officers seized:

- 176.05 grams of methamphetamine

- 54.42 grams of cocaine

- $1,102.40 in Canadian currency

- A loaded Taurus 9mm handgun with additional ammunition

Police said estimated street value of the drugs seized is $16,000.

A 49-year-old man from Mississauga, who was under a lifetime firearms ban, is facing the following charges.

- Possession of a prohibited firearm

- Possession of a firearm while being prohibited

- Possession of ammunition while being prohibited

- Possession of a firearm without being a licensed holder

- Possession of a firearm knowing that they are not a licensed holder

- Possession of prohibited ammunition

- Carrying a concealed weapon (firearm)

- Carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose

- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)

- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine)

- Possession of property obtained by crime.

The suspect was not named by police.

Police said investigators have identified an ongoing trend of individuals travelling from larger urban centres into Sarnia to traffic drugs, often while in possession of firearms.

This is the second handgun seized from a Greater Toronto Area-based drug trafficker operating in Sarnia within the last three months.
