Local Royal Canadian Legion branches across Sarnia-Lambton have officially launched the 2026 National Poppy Campaign, inviting residents to pin on a poppy in honour of Canada's veterans and fallen service members.
Beginning this year, the Poppy Campaign runs on a new, fixed schedule from October 24 through November 11. Previously set to launch on the last Friday of October, The Royal Canadian Legion said the adjusted calendar provides extra time for Canadians to obtain a poppy, pay tribute to military veterans and support local branch initiatives before Remembrance Day.
Funds collected through poppy donations are held directly in trust at the local branch level. These funds support veterans and their families in immediate need, funding accessible housing, medical equipment, home support and community programs.
Local residents looking to pin on a poppy have several ways to participate this year.
Standard poppy boxes are available at participating retail locations across Sarnia-Lambton, including major retail and pharmacy chains.
Local Legion branches remain the primary spot for poppies, wreaths and Remembrance Day information.
For those who prefer online options, the Legion offers poppies through its Amazon storefront, with 100 per cent of donations directed straight back into the Legion's Poppy Trust Funds.
Canadians are also encouraged to show their support online by sharing photos of their poppies on social media using the hashtag #GetYourPoppy.
