Imperials Overpower Patriots

The Sarnia Imperials are closing in on their second straight division title after another impressive outing Saturday night.

The homeside overpowered the Steel City Patriots 37-21 to improve to 5-1 on the season, the top record in the West Division.

The Imperials got off to a quick start with Josh Wright returning a 110 yard kickoff for the touchdown just 18 seconds into the contest. Jim Purves had an impressive return of his own, running back a missed field goal 102 yards for a touchdown, giving the Imperials a 17-14 lead at halftime.

Sarnia's offence got rolling in the second half with QB Pat Wright leading the way, throwing touchdown passes to Ryan Lounsbury and Matt Goulais. Lounsbury's was a 102 yard catch and run, while Goulais was a quick one yard play. Pat Wright finished the evening with seven completions for 158 yards and two passing touchdowns. Ryan Lounsbury lead the team in receiving yards with 113 on two catches.

Defensively the Imperials were all over the Patriots, recording four sacks and three interceptions.

The Imperials are now in good position to win their second straight division title, and ultimately controls their own fate. The Imperials can clinch the division if they win one of their two remainign games, or Sudbury to loses one of their three remaining games.
