GOJHL Season Underway This Weekend

The GOJHL regular season is off and running this weekend, with every team playing a pair of games at the annual showcase in London.

The Sarnia Legionnaires play Thorold Saturday and Listowel Sunday.

Head Coach Mark Davis expects plenty of scouts at the event again this year.

"There's a lot of guys on our hockey club that are looking at the school route and a couple looking to get to the OHL," says Davis. "They have to go there and perform, and go out there and just be their selves. We're just encouraging them to compete every shift, and I'm sure they will this weekend."

With teams playing out of conference games, Davis says it's a good opportunity to see what they have, and what they'll need to work on.

"You get to see some teams you don't usually see, so it's a nice measuring stick to see where you are before you get into games within your conference."

First home game fore the Legionnaires is Thursday, September 15 against St. Thomas at Sarnia Arena.

The Lambton Shores Predators open the season Saturday against Brantford, and play Buffalo Sunday evening.

After missing the playoffs last year, Head Coach Brian Dobbin says expectations are much higher this season.

"We're going to go out there and compete, we have a good club, and we like what we have," says the former NHLer. "We have some young guys who will need to get up to speed in their first year of junior hockey, but they were great in the preseason so that should help with their comfort levels early on."

It'll be Dobbin's first year behind the bench in Lambton Shores.

The Preds do have the Western Conference leading score returning to the hockey club. In his two seasons with Lambton Shores, Ethan Sarfati has 133 points in 96 games.

The team also signed defenceman and Kingston draft pick Peter Cascagnette, as well as goaltender Tynan Lauziere, who has 76 games of Jr. B hockey under his belt.

Marcel Berube will also return to the hockey club, he scored 9 goals and 26 points as a 16-year-old rookie with the Preds last season. He's a draft pick of the Ottawa 67's.

The Predators host Strathroy on Saturday, September 17 in their home opener.

Lambton Shores and Sarnia will meet for the first time this season on Thursday, September 22.
