The Point Edward Pacers have had a tough time with the Wallaceburg Red Devils this season, winless in four meetings after dropping a 14-6 decision at Point Edward Memorial Arena Sunday afternoon.
Playing their third game in four nights, the Pacers didn't have the extra step needed to keep up with the Red Devils, who hadn't played in a week.
Wallaceburg opened things up early in the second period with four goals in a two minute span. They went on to score eight goals in the middle stanza to take an 11-4 lead through 40 minutes. They would add three more in the third before the Pacers potted a pair of late goals.
Head Coach Randy Dunn was hoping for a better effort against likely their biggest rival.
"It wasn't the weekend I envisioned, but I knew it was going to be a tough stretch for us," says Dunn. "It came down to simple mistakes, guys not concentrating and doing what they need to be doing."
"Pretty disappointing, not only the outcome but there's a couple guys in the lineup who didn't have the effort we need from them."
Jack Dunn had a pair of goals and three helpers while Cory Burr scored twice. Both players enjoyed busy weeks offensively, with Dunn scoring seven goals and 15 points in three games, Burr had eight goals and 13 points. Logan Scott and Blain Adams also found the back of the net for Point Edward on Sunday afternoon.
With a pair of practices this week, Randy Dunn is looking to right the ship as the team prepares for some winnable games.
"We just got to get back to where we were, and I'm confident we can. We've had a bit of a tough stretch here, I told the guys to be ready to work at practice this week so we can get back in the win column and get prepared for a playoff run."
The loss drops Point Edwards record to 7-8 on the season, while Wallaceburg improves to 9-4-1. The Red Devils now sit tied with Windsor for top spot in the Far West Division, both five points up on the Pacers.
