For the first time in the tournament's history the Sarnia Braves have won the Stan Slack Midget International Wood Bat Tournament.
The Braves split a pair of games on Friday to open the tournament, losing their tournament opener to the Springfield Under-18's by a 4-2 score. They followed that up with a bounce back win over the Springfield Under-16's 10-4 Friday evening.
Sarnia continued their winning ways Saturday with a 10-0 triumph over Michigan's Thumb Elite, followed by a 6-2 victory over Barrie. The Braves wrapped up their round robin schedule with a 4-2 loss to Guelph Sunday morning, giving Sarnia a 3-2 record.
The Braves were facing the Springfield Under-18's in Sunday's championship game, Springfield won all five of their round robin games. Sarnia handed them their first loss of the weekend when it mattered most, taking the championship game 3-0 Sunday afternoon.
This is the 23rd year the Braves are hosting the tournament, and it's the first time they've won the annual event. The tournament was renamed in 2014 in honour of Stan Slack.
