Nienhuis Selected In USHL Draft

A local blueliner has been selected in the United States Hockey League draft.

Following a tremendous rookie season with the Sarnia Legionnaires, Nash Nienhuis was chosen by the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the eighth round of the USHL Phase Two Draft Tuesday.

Nienhuis scored four goals and 28 points during his rookie season on the Legionnaires blueline, and was named the team's Rookie of the Year along with Jake Vince. The former Lambton Jr Sting standout was the first Dman selected by the Lumberjacks.

It's not the first time the offensive minded defenceman has been drafted, he was selected in the 14th round by the Sarnia Sting in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.

Muskegon's General Manager is former NHL goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck.

With the exception of the USA National team that plays out of Plymouth, the Michigan-based Lumberjacks are the closest USHL team to Sarnia. They play their home games 357km away from Nienhuis' hometown.
