Glencoe takes on Petrolia in the first game of the Hayter Memorial Firefighters Hockey tournament Friday, November 23 at 7 p.m. in Alvinston.
Alvinston Fire Department Chief Ron McCabe said most of the teams are hometown firefighters.
"We have teams from Petrolia, Alvinston, Watford, St. Clair, Dawn, Lambton Shores, Elgin, as well as Lucan, Glencoe, and Toronto," said McCabe. "All the money we raise goes to Camp Bucko, a free summer camp near Toronto for young burn victims. It's run all by volunteer firefighters. It's a great time for kids who have suffered similar injuries to get together for a week."
The tournament is named after the late longtime firefighter Jim Hayter, who died in 2017 in a motor vehicle collision near Glencoe.
Spectators are asked to bring along a non-perishable food item for the Food Bank.
Opening ceremonies are set for 7 p.m. Friday with games all day Saturday and the semi-finals and finals on Sunday at 2 p.m.
