Sting losing streak now at seven games

The Saginaw Spirit beat Sarnia 6-3 in front of 2,646 fans at the Progressive Auto Sales Sports Arena extending the Sting's losing streak to seven games.

The Spirit posted 20 shots in the opening period compared to Sarnia's 8 and goals by Ilya Solovyov and Ryan Suzuki gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Sting goalie Benjamin Gaudreau said he didn't mind the salvo of shots in the first. "It gets me into it, focused into it and gets my eyes going."

He said "I'm not really sure what the trouble is getting out of the gate. It's something we have to focus on and take it upon ourselves to be there and get ready".

Sam Bitten (10) opened the scoring for the Sting at the 7:07 mark of the second period.

The Spirit's Danil Antropov tallied at 15:51 then less than a minute later Sarnia captain Ryan McGregor scored his 19th goal of the season to make the score 4-2.

Antropov notched his second of the game with 50 seconds left in the second.

44 seconds into the third DJ Busdeker scored for Saginaw.

Near the midway mark Ty Voit (4) scored for the Sting before Ryan Suzuki, with his second goal, completed the scoring for the Spirit.

Gaudreau, who stopped 38 of 44 shots, said the losing streak hurts.

"When things just don't go our way we kind of get down on ourselves a little bit. It's kind of getting over that curve that we can still do this."
