The Sarnia Sting have welcomed a Slovakian prospect, 18-year-old Roman Kukumberg, through the 2023 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft.
Kukumberg was a left-shooting winger with the Slovan Bratislava team and tallied six goals and eight assists for a total of 14 points during the 2023-2024 regular season. The six-foot-tall, 183-pound player also represented Slovakia in multiple international tournaments.
“We’re excited to add another competitive player who plays with an edge, has the tools to be an effective 200ft player. He has international experience with Slovakia and we know he’s excited to be coming to Sarnia,” said General Manager Dylan Seca in a statement.
The Import Draft was introduced in 1992 to allow clubs to select players from outside of North America.
Sarnia had the 43rd overall selection in this year's CHL Import Draft.
The Sting will open their development camp in late August ahead of the 2023-2024 OHL season. Sarnia will kick off its season with a game against Windsor on September 29.
