It happened in the 2200-block of Lincoln Rd. shortly before 6am.
Police say an 81-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when someone from behind snatched his newspaper bag and struck him in the face. The victim was sent to hospital with minor injuries.
Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
