The Ontario Racing Commission is proposing 14 race days at the Leamington Fairgounds next year, to the delight of organizers.
Tom Bain with the Lakeshore Horse Raceway group says it's less than the 17 they had asked for, but one extra day and a better schedule is good news. "We wanted days in the summer and we were able to get that. We weren't having a lot of luck on Saturdays and they've been dropped and we've been given Sundays. Really, we're pleased with what the racing commission is offering us."
13 days of racing last year began in September in Leamington and lasted into a chilly October. The first proposed race day is Aug. 2nd and continue each Sunday into October. The schedule is up for appeal for the next month.
The ORC is proposing 21 race days for Hiawatha Race Track in Sarnia and 11 days in Dresden, both the same as last year.
