It's been a pretty big year for Essex MP Jeff Watson and his Conservative government.
Watson says one local project he's proud to be a part of is construction of the new Windsor-Detroit bridge. "With land acquisitions just around the corner, the federal plaza lands being moved on now and that project which always seemed distant is now on the immediate horizon," says Watson. "There will be significant jobs during the construction, materials that will be sourced here in Canada. We're looking forward to that project now becoming a reality."
Watson says 2014 has also been a time of serious discussions with the auto industry. "We know that Chrysler will be coming back to the table very soon," says Watson. "They promised in 2015 so we want to make sure that we secure the base of Windsor's economic future for a long time to come."
Even after Ford chose to invest in Mexico over Canada, Watson says his government still has money set aside for future Ford investment. "We put significant, actually historic, funding on the table. In an effort to secure that (investment) the unions put a significant amount of money," says Watson. "We always remain open for business if Ford wants to consider us for whatever (its) future commitments are for Windsor. Our government remains available and ready at the table, we're an eager partner."
