It's a 4.92% tax increase for residents in Lakeshore.
Municipal councillors pared down the increase on Tuesday, initially proposed at 6.11%, before giving the budget council approval. Including county and education rates, the increase drops to 2.3% which Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain is happy with.
"We will still be the lowest taxes in Essex County even with that 2.3% increase," says Bain. "We know that the last couple of years we've had some infrastructure needs that we put aside and we'll be able to get back to working on those needs."
The increase means about a $53 jump in taxes on a home assessed at $200,000.
