Town Support For Spitfire Honour Wall

The Town of Essex will be writing the cheque to build the Honour Wall addition to the spitfire memorial in the town.

The move saves the Essex Memorial Spitfire Committee money on the HST. The committee's chairperson, Suzanne Allison, plans on pushing for other municipal donations.

"If every community gave us $1,000, that's another $5,000 or $6,000 that we can use towards the lighting and the cementing and the flag poles," says Allison.

So many names have been submitted for the wall, the project has doubled in scope.

"It was only a 4 ft wide wall to start off with," says Allison, explaining the design has had to expand. "It's two 8 ft pieces and then a 4 ft wide taller piece of granite rock in the middle, so it's gorgeous."

Allison puts the estimated cost now closer to $60,000.
