It didn't take long for the City of Windsor's Spay/Neuter Voucher Program to sell out.
Windsor's Deputy Licence Commissioner says 650 vouchers were available this year. Gary Cian says vouchers for feral cats sold out in just half an hour while the vouchers to spay, and neuter cats in low-income families didn't take much longer.
The program is supposed to reduce the number of homeless cats and the rate of euthanasia.
Cian says only 70% of the vouchers typically get used, so the city has also set up waiting lists if the vouchers remain unused within 90 days. The waiting list for feral cats is already full with 100 names, but there's still room on the waiting list for pets. So far, 80 names are listed.
The city set aside $50,000 in the 2015 Operating Budget for the program.
