Defending PARC Transparency

The Greater Essex County District School Board is defending the transparency and openess of its Program and Accommodation Review Committee process.

Essex councillors were upset with the board in its scheduling of PARC community input meetings.

Superintendent of Accommodations Todd Awender tells BlackburnNews.com the board does its best.

"Trying to get dates that are good for everbody is nearly impossible. However, we do put the dates out and if the people feel that it's important, we then hope that they do come out and provide some really constructive input to the process," says Awender.

Hundreds of people packed the gym at Harrow District High School last Monday for a public input session as the school board works through an accommodation review of five schools in Harrow, Amherstburg and Kingsville.

"This is a true process, and I speak from personal experience as a principal, and often what the final outcome was and the recommendations that came out of it were not what was thought at the very beginning of it," says Awender, stressing the board has scheduled community meetings and reached out to the councils of affected municipalities. "Any time they want to meet, we're absolutely willing to do that to share ideas, share data."

Two more community meetings are scheduled for April 13 at Western Secondary School in Amherstburg and May 12 at Migration Hall in Kingsville. Click here for more on the GECDSB PARC.
