Family and friends have set up a GoFundMe campaign to bring home the body of a Windsor man who died in Cuba.
Steve Sullivan, 44, was vacationing in Cuba last month when he passed away. His friend, Michael LeBlanc, says it was completely unexpected. "He apparently was having some trouble breathing, passed out and they were never able to revive him. He had a pulmonary edema."
Soon after the death, Sullivan's wife Erica Browne received a letter from Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada saying unless she had insurance to cover the repatriation of the body, she would be charged over $7,000.
LeBlanc says Sullivan and Browne have four children ranging in age from six to 19. "It's basically just trying to get him home for some closure for his kids. He died on February 18, and so we're almost a month now out, and he's in another country."
The campaign has a goal of $8,000.
