A report expected back to Tecumseh Council in the summer should show the feasibility of adding a new indoor soccer field and more to the Tecumseh Recreation Complex.
Mayor Gary McNamara campaigned on the expansion in the last election and says there's a real need.
"When we look at that type of facility in the north shore there really isn't one," says McNamara. "Everybody's putting in pools, but I think this is a facility that's not only going to be utilized by youth, but this is going to be across generations."
Along with a new indoor soccer field, McNamara wants to see the expanded facility include walking tracks, batting cages and community rooms. He expects the cost to be in the range of $6-million to $8-million.
"There's a lot of things that have to be done," says McNamara. "The establishing of a fundraising committee, we're going to look at some fundraising dollars. We're going to certainly look at provincial and federal government financing as well."
McNamara adds there will be a public input process and the town plans to collaborate with stakeholders on the project.
