Every year, 40,000 birders visit Essex County and local businesses learned today the best ways to capitalize on their presence.
Eighty stakeholders were part of a symposium at Point Pelee, hosted by Tourism Windsor-Essex Pelee Island.
Vice President Lynette Bain says they're also launching a publication to help get birders spending their money locally. "A regional guide for hot birding spots, other than the park. Also, some of our local wineries, farms and even attractions as far as Windsor."
Bain says the economic spin-off is in the millions, but didn't have any concrete numbers because of a lack of visitor data.
