Much Interest In Old Target

Devonshire Mall is getting "a great deal of interest" from tenants wishing to fill the old Target location.

But general manager Chris Savard says he's unable to bring a retailer in right now since Target Canada filed for bankruptcy protection. "Even if we wanted to do something today or tomorrow, we don't have control of the space just yet," says Savard. "We're working through that process with the courts. It's a fairly detailed and timely process, so we're working through that as we speak."

At this point, Savard says it's premature to give any hints as to what may fill the space. "It's an interesting discussion we're having. A lot of the various tenants and various options that we're looking at are good uses for the centre," says Savard. "We're excited that sadly with change comes a neat opportunity and we think we'll have a nice offering at some point down the road."

Savard says he hopes to make an announcement by the end of the year.

Tecumseh Mall recently filled the former Zellers with a call centre, but Savard says Devonshire Mall will remain strictly retail.

Some former Target locations across Canada have announced Lowe's, Walmart and Canadian Tire will be moving in with GoodLife Fitness also eyeing spaces. Savard says that won't be the case here in Windsor because of the proximity of those three spaces already.
