Hundreds Of Jobs Go Unfilled

Windsor's jobless rate may be stubbornly high, but each month the city's employment services centre posts hundreds of positions.

Executive Director of Employment Services Bruno Ierullo says he's aware of about 200 job postings right now. "I think there's a steady flow of jobs that come to us. I mean, the number fluctuates. It's a moving target."

For those who's qualifications may not meet the jobs requirements, Ierullo says there are training possibilities and about 1,800 people take advantage of them each year. "Some of them are short-term training programs," he says. "Particularly in food services, people are getting jobs quite quickly."

Statistics Canada reported an employment rate in Windsor of 11% last month, the highest in the country.

About 1,800 people visit the city's employment services centre each month.
