Police Save Man From Drowning

A 55-year-old man is alive after being pulled out of the Detroit River by Windsor police with some help from the public.

The Windsor Police Service says on Tuesday around 7:30pm, an officer jumped in after the man and was able to get a life ring around him so he could be pulled to safety. A woman on a jet ski passing by also jumped into the water to try and keep the man from drowning.

Police had been called to the waterfront near Riverside Dr. W and Mckay Ave.

Officers saw the man in the water about 30 ft from shore. People near by had thrown a life ring to the man in the water, but he didn't try to swim to it.

The man was sent to hospital for assessment.
