[audio wav="http://blackburnnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/FIVE-QUESTIONS-WITH-CHERYL-HARDCASTLE-NDP-WT.wav"][/audio] --- Building on her experience as a local journalist and deputy mayor of Tecumseh, Cheryl Hardcastle says she will be a strong voice in Parliament for Windsor—Tecumseh, carrying on the work of retiring MP Joe Comartin.
While serving as Tecumseh’s Deputy Mayor (2011-2014), she also chaired six committees, including Arts and Culture, Technical Review and Heritage—where she spearheaded the designation of the Banwell Road Historical Black Cemetery and the creation of the Oldcastle Heritage Park. She was also a member of the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority Board and the Essex Region Conservation Authority Board.
Before entering politics, Cheryl worked for almost 20 years as a reporter and editor of the former Tecumseh Tribune. A past member of Pathway to Potential and the National Pension Reform Committee, she has worked to reduce poverty in Windsor-Essex County and to help more Canadians retire with dignity. Cheryl has organized minor sports programs and tournaments, serving as director of the Tecumseh Baseball Club and president of Sun Parlour Female Hockey Association.
She’s also a founding member of the Tecumseh Area Historical Society—and spearheaded the successful campaign to have the Great Native Confederacy Leader Tecumseh commemorated on an official stamp.
Cheryl is a native of Tecumseh and the proud mother of four adult children. --- Interesting riding facts:
