Catholic School Literacy Results Positive

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board is again well above the provincial average when it comes to Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test results.

Director Paul Picard says the board is seeing positive results due to a number of evolving strategies.

"There's everything from targeted instruction, from literacy support teachers to practice testing, (the list) goes on and on and on," he explains. "But as (teachers) track the data, and see what exactly is going on, they modify."

This year, the board's Grade 10 students scored an 87% success rate on the test.

That's 5% better than the Ontario average.

And although it's a decrease from the board's score of 90% last year, it had seen steady growth from 83% in 2011.
