Arrest In Pizza Brothers Explosion

Windsor police are charging one man, while waiting for another to recover before laying more charges in an arson at Pizza Brothers on Wyandotte St. E.

Sergeant Matthew D'asti says an explosion is believed to have been created inside the restaurant early Monday morning, allegedly by a 21-year-old who ended up seriously injured.

"We understand that he is expected to survive," adds D'asti. "He is in critical condition with burns to 60% of his body. He is in a medically induced coma, and is expected to remain in that condition for some time."

Police say a 39-year-old helped the suspect escape the scene, and was arrested Thursday morning on Howard Ave. at Cabana Rd.

Officers believe the 21-year-old was taken to an undisclosed location right after the incident by the 39-year-old, but eventually ended up calling an ambulance and has since been flown to a hospital in Hamilton.

The arrested man faces three charges related to the arson, while police will wait until the other suspect's health improves before charging him.
