A Windsor police officer is being honoured by Canada's Governor General for his efforts in saving a man from the Detroit River back in 2013.
Constable Trevor Snyder, now in his seventh year on the force, says the man was attempting to take his own life.
"I jumped in (to the river) as quickly as I could, and with the assistance of other officers, I was able to get him to shore," he explains. "We did some life-saving measures and they brought him to hospital, but unfortunately he did pass away. But at the time, we did as much as we could."
Snyder says he was surprised by the letter he received from the Governor General, commending him. He believes police officers in Windsor are doing work each day that could easily be seen as something worth the same recognition.
