Million Dollar Donation Not The End

Domino's Pizza of Canada CEO Mike Schlater says more is on the way after donating a million dollars to the Municipality of Leamington, to be paid out over the next ten years.

The town's council thanked Schlater who teased a future announcement.

"We are going to do something really cool for students that are in grades six, seven and eight. I won't tell you what it is now, but it'll be something that will make a big difference in their lives," says Schlater.

Leamington Mayor John Paterson told Schlater his donation was a jaw-dropper.

"I cannot forget the day when we were sitting there for lunch and you basically reached over and put my jaw back up in place after you told us what you were doing," says Paterson. "I don't think we'll ever be able to thank you enough for you generosity."

Council didn't waste any time in putting the donated money to use committing $275,000 towards building a fieldhouse at the Leamington Soccer Fields.

The project came in $108,000 over the $600,000 budget. The municipality is contributing $300,000 while Leamington Minor Soccer is adding $150,000 and the rest covered by Schlater's donation, including $17,000 for contingency purposes.

Council approved Marcovecchio Construction based in Ruthven to design and build the fieldhouse.
