Amherstburg town council has had a look at the draft budget for 2016, and so far the document calls for a 2.1% increase.
That works out to another $35 on the property tax bill for the average home valued at $190,000.
The draft budget for 2015 called for a 9.2% increase before council whittled that down to 4.27%.
The public can review the draft on the town's website, and Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the public will have a chance to comment on it before council debates the expenses line-by-line. DiCarlo has previously said he would like council to pass it before the new year.
He says infrastructure spending must be a priority.
"There's a long list of issues that we need to address," he says. "Road issues, drainage issues, all that stuff -- it's not going to go away. So, you can put it off, you put it off, and you can put it off, but it's going to catch up to you."
Town council also voted to hire Toronto lawyer Robert Swayze to act as its integrity commissioner. The Town of Essex recently hired Swayze and county council is considering it.
