New Essex Pavilion In The Works

The Town of Essex is considering spending $100,000 to build a pavilion on new park land by the Historic Essex Train Station.

The project would be in partnership with the Essex Centre Business Improvement Association which is committing $150,000 towards the project.

BIA Chair Mary-Anne Bjorkman feels the pavilion would be something everyone could enjoy.

"It's right down in our core. We could do a farmers market, even just for businesses and business owners wanting to get outside and get a little fresh air," says Bjorkman. "Need a little shelter or picnic table? It'll be there."

Council will consider spending $70,000 from the 2015 budget towards the project and will decide if another $30,000 from the 2016 budget will be put towards the pavilion.

"We're hoping to put a little more than just a tin roof and some beams up," says Bjorkman. "We would really like to see something that would almost mimic the train station in town with a little bit of stone; that's our dream."

Bjorkman hopes to see construction begin in spring of 2016.
