Windsor City Council will consider a consultant's report at tonight's meeting that recommends hiring 2.5 full time staff to create an internal economic development department.
The report also recommends the city continue its efforts with the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation as a regional approach to economic development.
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says if they decide to create an internal department council will have to decide where the funding will come from. "At the end of the day if we were to use all or part of the funds that are being returned from WEEDC, that is one time funds that will run out so the option would be to reduce the funding to WEEDC or increase the budget for economic development ." Dilkens estimates it will cost the city around $300,000 a year to fund the 2.5 employees.
