Amherstburg Delay Budget Again

The Town of Amherstburg is still waiting to hear from its Audit and Finance Committee before formally passing the 2016 budget.

Town CAO John Miceli says the delay should not have a significant impact on town operations.

"It won't majorly change the course of the day to day operations of the town, not at all," says Miceli. "What it will do is there's some initiatives that the town or administration would like to undertake with council's blessing and until the budget is approved we can't undertake those initiatives."

Councillors passed in principle a 2.25% tax levy increase — that's about a $38 increase for a home assessed at $191,000.
"Quite honestly I'm not sure what exactly [the Finance and Audit Committee] is bringing forward and how it might materially change the direction of council," says Mayor Aldo DiCarlo.

Discussions have been put off until January 4 to give the finance committee more time to review the budget.
