Workers Hold Information Picket

Personal Support Workers at Banwell Gardens are hoping for a fair settlement after four years without a contract.

Arbitration between Unifor Local 2458 and the owners of the long term care home is taking place today.

"We've tried to sit down and talk with them, we've had a mediator, we've tried everything and it's not even like we're asking for much at all," says Union Steward Dianne Davey.

Davey says they are asking for the same wage increases that most other workers in similar homes have received. They would also like to see an increase to shift premiums and uniform allowance. Currently workers are earning between $18-$20 an hour.

An arbitration decision is due within 90 days.
