Lakeshore Fire and Rescue Service saved a young dog from the icy waters of Belle River this morning.
The lab got away from its owner during a walk and jumped in the river around Notre Dame bridge. The young man jumped into the water after his dog but was unable to lift him from the water.
Lakeshore firefighters was called about the man in the water. By the time they arrived the man had already exited the river, but fire crews were able to save the dog.
The man was checked over by EMS and was released with no injuries.
