Council Saves Atkinson Park Pool

A victory for residents living near Atkinson Park. Windsor city council has decided to keep the pool there open.

Originally, the city wanted to close the pool and replace it with a splash pad. That would have saved $42,499.

Residents who were at a public meeting on the pool's future last week made it clear they wanted to keep their pool and have a splash pad.

Debbie Morin with the Friends of Atkinson Park and Pool is thrilled the pool survived budget deliberations.

"Usually, we have to fight tooth and nail," she says, recalling a similar threat to the pool 15 years ago.

Attendance at the pool has fallen recently, but Morin predicts an increase in use as more immigrant families move into the neighbourhood.
