New Rehab Beds At HDGH

Hotel Dieu Grace Health Care is opening a new 30 bed rehab unit that will specialize in geriatric care.

This will allow the hospital to create other cohorts for patients in neuro or general rehabilitation.

CEO Janice Kaffer says this will give staff on each unit the chance to develop a specialty and create specific best practices.

"Today we're starting the very first step towards a centre of excellence in rehabilitative care and for us this first foray into it, the new 30 beds, allows us to start to take a more specialized approach to the rehabilitative care of all the members of our community," says Kaffer.

The hospital was able to convert 40 long-term care beds to create the new rehab unit.

The goal is to rehabilitate the patients so they can return home and not have to go into a long-term care facility if possible.
