The annual Kingsville Polar Bear Dip surpassed the $1-million mark Saturday.
The 16th annual edition at Cedar Island Beach raised $65,000 pushing the total for the past 16 years to about $1,050,000.
Organizer Kim Cavers says she decided five or six years ago to chase the goal.
"The first year, I think we raised under $20,000," she says. "As the years went on it just got bigger and better."
Saturday's event holds special meaning for her.
"My son was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 1993, and he is a survivor," says Cavers. "He'll be 23 in March, and he had a team in the dip."
The polar bear dip raises money for Child Can, which supports children with cancer and their families, and Access County Community Support Services.
