The outcome could have been a lot worse for Glad the cat, who was left outside the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society in the frigid cold.
Glad was in a broken carrier wrapped in a garbage bag near the front door.
An employee happened to be driving by at around midnight Sunday and noticed "something odd."
The humane society says they're grateful he was left where he could be found, but disappointed it was done after-hours.
The responsible thing to do, they say, would have been to surrender Glad while the shelter is open.
There is a fee, but it can be waived if the owner is unable to pay.
