Catholic School Board Wants Leamington Input

Cardinal Carter High School will host the first of three public meetings about proposed changes to Catholic schools in Leamington.

The meeting starts at 6pm Monday night.

The Accommodation Review Committee recommends trustees with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board close St.Louis Catholic Elementary School and move students in junior kindergarten to grade six to Queen of Peace Catholic Elementary School. Grade seven and eight students at both of those schools would attend a new middle school at Cardinal Carter High School.

Past accommodation review recommendations have been controversial, and school board spokesman Stephen Fields expects a healthy debate tonight too.

"These are their schools and if they have suggestions on the current recommendations that they want to get across we encourage them to come out," he says. "If they've got ideas that are alternatives to what the board is currently proposing, we're all ears."

Fields says school board trustees could make their decision in April.

The board is also embarking on accommodation reviews in West Windsor and Amherstburg.
