Two local World Gym locations plagued with opening delays should be back on track, according to the owner.
The World Gym located on Lauzon Rd. in Windsor and the other on Malden Rd. in LaSalle have long passed their opening dates in December. This has caused some concern for those who have purchased memberships prior to the delay.
Owner Wes Hodgson says a number of issues prevented the gyms from opening on time, but those problems have since been addressed.
"We have $2-million worth of equipment sitting in a warehouse, so we're not happy about the situation either... Between the city and some permit issues, and contractor issues, it was just sort of a handful of things," he says. "Unfortunately we were in that position and now we're taking control of the situation and dealing with it."
Hodgson says due to the opening delay, an issue arose with a company policy that only allowed refunds to be issued to customers from the gym's head office. He says that has since been altered in the meantime to ensure anyone who has signed up for a membership can get a refund.
However, Hodgson says anyone who has purchased a membership can expect the LaSalle location to open within two weeks.
According to a statement on a World Gym Facebook page, the LaSalle location is putting the finishing touches on the locker rooms, and is just awaiting the delivery of the rubber floor and equipment.
A tentative opening date for the Windsor location has yet to be determined.
"We're looking forward to a great open and we're trying to make it happen as quick as we can," says Hodgson.
The statement says weekly updates with progress on the gym openings will be posted to their Facebook page, which can be found by clicking here.
