Kingsville councillors are set to get their first official look at the town's 2016 budget today.
"We're going to go into it with eyes wide open," says Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos. "It's a pretty aggressive budget in terms of a number of big capital projects that we've been discussing."
Santos says about $1-million in trail work is proposed for this year as the town works to complete its section of the Seacliff Dr. trail project.
"We're looking at probably the most significant investment in active transportation that's being proposed in this budget," says Santos.
Another $1-million project is on the table in the proposed budget as Kingsville councillors will consider the complete reconstruction of Lakeview Ave.
"We completed the engineering work in 2015, so now going into 2016 we're looking at basically utilizing a mixture of our gas tax grants and our local levy for the project," says Santos.
The proposed 2016 budget calls for a 5% increase on the municipal tax base.
Today's budget meeting runs from 9am to 3pm. The next budget meeting is set for February 24 where community groups will look to make their case for municipal grants.
