A new social media campaign meant to alert the province to the need in Windsor-Essex of a new hospital is getting a lukewarm reception from a city councillor.
Ward 3's Rino Bortolin was hoping to see more from a hospital news conference on Monday than the 'WEareready' hashtag campaign that came from it.
"I was hoping to hop on to Twitter and get in the newsfeed that there was more headway actually with the money and the funds being released by the province and not just another campaign," Bortolin tells BlackburnNews.com. "I'm hoping that we could get beyond symbolic gestures and we can get, basically, cheques delivered from the province."
Bortolin isn't sure the project should be at the stage of needing an awareness campaign.
"It's to a certain extent a little bit gimmicky," says Bortolin. "At this point in time we've gone through the process to get to this point, we've done everything that the province has asked for; the province has to step up and deliver the funds."
Windsor Regional Hospital CEO David Musyj hopes to hear come the spring whether or not the region has approval to move forward with the $2-billion mega hospital project.
