Library Creating Homelessness Hub

The Windsor Public Library is spearheading a new project to help the homeless in the city with a $200,000 grant from the Ontario Libraries Capacity Fund.

The money will go toward creating a Library Hub for social services for those experiencing homelessness or living in poverty.

Christine Rideout-Arkell with the library says the goal is to make the available resources easier to navigate and understand.

"Whether it be housing or income support, mental health services, food security that sort of thing. We would be the information hub that we could then refer them elsewhere," says Rideout-Arkell.

The Windsor Public Library will work with the Essex County Library and the Guelph public library to create a service model that will work in both urban and rural settings.

"Once the research and the model is created here in Windsor we're going to create an electronic tool-kit that we can then go and train other library systems throughout the province," says Arkell.

The project will begin this summer and run until the end of 2017.
