Police Attending More Mental Health Calls

Windsor patrol officers were busy this week attending to five mental health-related calls during one shift.

The Windsor Police Service says it receives numerous mental health calls each day, typically involving people in a mental crisis that require immediate care.

On Monday Windsor police officers dealt with five high-risk mental health calls between 3pm and 10pm. Eight patrol units were involved in one of those calls and a total of 28 police hours were tied up during that seven-hour period.

They say in instances like these officers step in to locate the person, speak with them and ensure they get the proper medical care.

"Many resources are allocated to ensure the best possible outcome," Windsor police say in a news release.
