Contractors are busy in Windsor-Essex as housing starts heat up.
The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says ground broke on 57 homes in March, a total increase of 280% over March 2015. Construction started on 42 single-detached homes last month compared with just six a year ago.
The increase comes at a time when housing sales in Windsor-Essex are also red hot. Earlier this week, the Windsor-Essex County Association of Realtors reported sales were up last month by more than 25%.
So far this year, housing starts have jumped 150% over 2015 with 150 single-detached and multi-unit groundbreakings.
The provincial numbers also show a 32% increase in starts last month compared with last March, while nationally, home construction was stable. Those figures show a 1% decrease.
