New figures show more tourists from the United States are coming to Windsor thanks to the low dollar.
Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island says travel by land and air has increased 14% in the first two months of 2016 compared to the same time last year.
CEO Gordon Orr says the organization is seeing positive growth in many sectors when looking at figures year over year. "Our hotel occupancies are very encouraging and seeing some positive growth. As well on the social media side we saw some great growth in our social media channels as well as our website traffic," says Orr. Hotel occupancies were up 3% in 2015 compared to 2014 and hotel rates increased by about 9% overall. Visits to visitwindsoressex.com went up 31%. Vice President of TWEPI Lynette Bain says this year's marketing campaign is getting good traction on social media. "Recognizing that we are blessed in Windsor-Essex Pelee Island with numerous tourism assets and no one iconic attraction we've decided to highlight the plenty of reasons to visit, and why you'll love this place in Windsor-Essex," says Bain. The organization has been using the hashtag #plentyofreasons to help highlight the attractions throughout the community . Bain says they are seeing growth in many different areas including eco-tourism, sports tourism and food tourism.
