Construction on the new Leamington District Secondary School can move forward after receiving site plan approval from the Municipality of Leamington.
The Greater Essex County District School Board has already approved plans for the school to be built at 80 Oak St. W and hired Rosati Construction to complete the work.
Leamington Mayor John Paterson says the municipality had to finalize an agreement with the County of Essex before approving the site plan because that portion of the street is a county road.
"We've worked an agreement with the county to assume ownership of that section of Oak St. so that we can move ahead with the planning and services and all the things that Leamington needs in place," says Paterson.
Work includes the widening of that section of road to build a centre turning lane for better traffic flow once the school is built.
The school is set to open to students in September 2017.
"The plans for inside that school will raise it above many in the area, I would suggest, in the different subjects they will offer and the possibilities for our youth in the future," says Paterson.
